All You Ever Wanted to Know About Mutual Funds (and more…)
For anyone interested in investing in mutual funds, or any of their variations, I would suggest visiting the Investment Company Institute’s website. The Investment Company Institute (ICI) describes themself as such:
The Investment Company Institute (ICI) is the national association of U.S. investment companies. Founded in 1940, its membership as of June 1, 2006 included 8,698 mutual funds, 656 closed-end funds, 166 exchange-traded funds, and five sponsors of unit investment trusts. Its mutual fund members serve 89.5 million individual shareholders and manage $9.378 trillion in investor assets. Membership in ICI is available to any SEC-registered investment company (open-end or closed-end), its investment adviser, and its underwriter.
…ICI’s Mission
The Institute engages in three core missions: encouraging adherence to high ethical standards by all industry participants; advancing the interests of funds, their shareholders, directors, and investment advisers; and promoting public understanding of mutual funds and other investment companies.
ICI is one of the best resources for unbiased information on mutual funds, ETFs, Health Savings Accounts, 529 plans, IRAs, etc. Also, if you’re really interested in finding out more of the facts about all of these investment tools, you can read their annual fact book which gives a ton of information about the entire industry. They also have a myriad of Investor Education Resources. Enjoy.
